What is MyWay

MyWay is a new way to get around Hastings that combines the benefits of public transport with the convenience and flexibility of travelling by car, taxi or Uber.

MyWay’s fleet of minivans respond to demand, matching people travelling in the same direction and working out the best route to pick users up and drop them off close to their destinations.

The MyWay service replaces Hastings bus routes 16A, 16B, and 17 from 7 June 2022. The flexibility of the service means you can get to all the places covered by the routes and more, when it suits you!

MyWay is brought to you by Hawke’s Bay Regional Council, with support from Hastings District Council and Waka Kotahi New Zealand Transport Agency.

Why the change to MyWay?

Hawke's Bay Regional Council is committed to a sustainable future for Hawke's Bay, and that means finding effective, lower emissions solutions for public transport. The MyWay service is a trial that aims to encourage more people out of their cars and onto better public transport. The Regional Council wants to see if our community finds it easy to use, likes it, and wants to see it stick around.

How does MyWay work?

MyWay operates a fleet of minivans, each seating 11-13 passengers. The service operates Monday to Friday, 6.00am to 6.00pm, responding to demand from users.

MyWay covers the Hastings urban area including Camberley, Raureka, Akina, Parkvale, St Leonards, Mayfair, Mahora, Frimley, and the CBD. It links into other bus services in wider Hastings and between Napier and Hastings. At this stage, MyWay does not travel to Havelock North or Flaxmere.

You can book a ride through the MyWay Hawke’s Bay app, by calling 0800 108 838, or through any of the booking services around Hastings. MyWay will then use technology to match you with others travelling in the same direction and find a nearby pick-up point, such as a corner, or an existing bus stop, within a short walking distance from where you are. MyWay will work out a flexible route that gets everyone to where they need to be, making for quick and efficient shared trips without inconvenient fixed routes and schedules.

Journeys are likely to be shorter and quicker than the current bus services and will let you get to more places in Hastings. If you're using the app, you can track the vehicle and get updates on your arrival in real time.

A MyWay ride costs $2.00, no matter where you’re going. The service is free for children under five and for SuperGold Card holders between 9:00am and 3:00pm, on weekdays and public holidays.

We are testing and trialling things as we go to make sure MyWay works as smoothly as possible.  We want to hear from you  so we know what we can do better, and if this service works for you and your whānau.
